a little thinking time never went a miss, and right now that was exactly what devon was doing, thinking. of course the bell tower had never been his first choice, but currently was the only place he could get some peace and quiet. clambering the steps slowly and carefully to the top. he knew he wasn't allowed up here, everyone knew, but no one listened to that rule. he knew loads of people who came up here.
devon missed fletcher, well, he missed all his friends. lately he'd been slightly anti-social. mostly to do with damn ezra, but he knew he had to at some point get over it. so he was here, and we was going to get over it. he was going to think about how he didn't really love ezra and that he was just being silly, and that he should stop it. even though he knew it was a load of lies. but he had to try, it was better than doing nothing at all. sighing, devon plonked down on the floor, leaning against the wall. he was going to forget. he was.

Imagination was a curse. It screwed with your mind, reality, and could have a general affect on everything you put to mind. Sure, it was handy when you had a nice imagination, and put it to use to things like stories or whatever. But sinister imaginations? They just seemed to cause havoc inside you. Now, I'm not saying Gretchen had a creepy imagination, in which she day dreamed about killing everyone at her school in inhumane ways. Not that there weren't those kind of people around anyway... But she did have her insecure and self-conscious trail of thoughts, which led to her dreaming up scenarios that weren't even bound to happen.
Well, at least thats what she was telling herself.
Mainly they were about Dante. Of course they were. After what had happened in her dorm the other night, the teenager couldn't help but wonder if it was real, or merely another thing she had imagined happening? Right, well, assuming it did happen, what if her worst fears were true? What if he still was just stringing her along, and playing her for a fucking fool? She wouldn't put it past Dante, but that didn't mean she wanted to goddamn admit it either. They were friends and she didn't wanna ruin that... but she certainly knew she liked him more than a friend. But what if he had just been testing her out, trying to figure out which side of Gretchen he liked more? Ugh, imagination was such a bitch like that... she was beginning to feel paranoid.
So in her failed attempt to figure out just what the hell was going on, Gretch had manage to walk from her dorm, and through the castle. It wasn't something she often did, mind you. Generally the girl would hit the town when wanting to get her mind off whatever screwed up issue was bubbling inside, so staying in school was a bit of a change. Eventually the teenager had found herself at the steps to the bell tower. Students weren't allowed up here but... rules were meant to be broken, right? She steadily climbed the staircase, expecting to find it empty, but half hoping to find it occupied. So when the later was confirmed, Gretchen made sure to pause at the top of the stairs, her chocolate brown eyes surveying the boy already there, leaning against a wall.
She could see by the obvious look on his face, and in the manor of which he was sitting, that obviously the kid wasn't the happiest of chaps at the moment. What could she say though? She was feeling pretty freakin' confused and miserable at the moment too, when really, she should have been larger than life. Gretch was tempted to turn on her heel right there, and get down the stairs before the boy noticed, but something made her stay. She had nothing more important to do, anyway. "Had a rough night?" she said gently, hoping not to startle the other youth. Then, starting at the corners of her lips, a soft, sympathetic smile manage to appear.

devon was finding this whole forgetting thing rather challanging. it wasn't for the lack of trying, it was just... impossible. now he understood what people meant when they said that trying to forget was a waste of time. forgetting just came. the issue was however, he couldn't. he wished he could just turn off his thoughts sometimes, like now. it wasn't like he could ever be with ezra anyway, even if he had split up with sammii. it wasn't like it would last anyway, it was quite obvious they'd get back together and he would have to go back to just watching and dreaming that it was HIM with ezra, not sammii.
he jumped slightly as he heard a girls voice, looking up to see someone that looked kind of familiar, but he couldn't put his finger on it. "something like that," devon replied, shrugging. he smiled a little up at her and then looked back down. so much for peace and quiet, but maybe company wasn't so bad. maybe it would take his mind of things? there was always a chance right? looking back up he patted the space beside him. "how about you? what brings you up here?" devon asked. he wasn't wishing to be nosy, he wanted to help.
[ sorry its bad =[ ]

While standing there for the moments before, during, and in between the boy's comments, Gretchen was able to take in the fellow youth. He was familiar, she would give him that. He even looked around her age, to be honest. Heck, he could very well have been a vampire, she could sense it on him. But the name? Daniel? Derick? She wouldn't have bet her house on that knowledge, thats for sure. Gretch continued to return his smile with her own gentle one, not wanting to act like one of those ever-high teenagers who acted like there wasn't every anything wrong in their life. The reality was, life could be pretty shitty at times, but generally all it took was someone to reach out. Cheesy, right? It was the truth, though, and as much as she mightn've have looked capable of it, but Gretchen liked to lend a hand.
At his offer to sit down, the girl didn't take long to accept it. She was one for company, and preferred to be around people, rather than alone most of the time. So this wasn't anything unusual for her. Walking to where the boy was, the teenager held the sides of her dress before sliding down on the wall to sit next to him. She let her legs stretch out, leaving them with her knees facing the ceiling in an arch, making a triangle with the floor below her. His question had caught her a little off guard, and so Gretchen replied with a small shrug, a smile, her eyes turning back to wards him.
"You know, same old shit, different day." her eyes stayed on his for a moment, before the teen reached out her hand. "I'm Gretchen, by the way." There was never a 'too late' for introductions, right?
( it was fiiine :] )

devon liked this girl, and was glad of the company now he thought about it. it wasn't like he was going to spill his guts to her, she was a stranger. but she seemed alright. he could sense that she might be a vampire, or maybe he was wrong? he didn't know. he wouldn't ask, unless species came up as a topic of conversation. which he very much doubted, but you never knew what the future held until it got there. he smiled as she accepted his offer to sit next to him. he watched and smiled as she did so, taking a moment to look at her dress. it was very pretty.
devon smiled and nodded. he knew exactly what she meant. he curled his knees up to his chest in a cross and rested his head upon the top. he found it a way more comfortable way to sit. smiling, he took gretchen's hand and shook it. "hi, im d-devon." devon smiled and gently let go of her hand, though noticed the damn stutter. he'd been getting better, but it randomly reared its stuttery head. "so..." devon didn't really know what to say now.

Gretch wasn't quite sure why the thought had occurred, but it did all the same. This boy, Devon, his name was, reminded her somewhat of her own twin brother. Why? Well, for a couple of facts. He looked like Zeke, more or less. Same kind of hair and skin, really. They looked about the same build, and by judgment of his attire, dressed similar. The thing that put them aside was the manner in which Devon had greeted her. She hadn't even particularly noticed his stutter. In all honesty, Zeke was a bit of a slut, and generally greeted attractive girls differently. Not that she thought she was over attractive but... you know, this guy wasn't hitting on her from the word go. That was something really nice about him.
When the other teenager spoke again, the girl then realized how awkward this could get, if she continued to act as coy as she had been before. Her eyes remained on his, as Gretchen returned her own hand, and then moved so that she was hugging herself with both arms. "So... are you okay? I mean, damn, that was a stupid question." the girl paused for a moment, as a nervous laugh escaped her mouth. "It's not of my business or anything but... You know..." she gave another shrug, turning her gaze and quirky smile back to Devon. "What drove you up here?"
