The sun broke crisply over the distant mountains as an alarm burst through the morning silence. Alena, half awake now, nearly jumped ten feet in the air. Sure, she had worked with alarms before, having set hers back in America so many times to work her horses a bit before taking a shower and heading to school. It was routine for her, but this routine was different. She didn't have her horses to work in the mornings, she didn't have any of that any longer. And it was simply because she was a nymph. And that meant that, instead of going to normal high school, she was here, in Germany, learning about her powers. She didn't hate it here, for she was only new, but it was not her favorite place to be, and she would much rather be at home with the horses she helped raise.
Alena stared at the white cracked ceiling above her bed as her beating heart slowed down from the jumpstart it had this morning. She continued to listen to the constant beeping until someone had the brains to stop it. It wasn't her alarm clock that had done it, but it scared her just as much, and she hated it just as much. Alarm clocks were just so horrid, and, although Alena used to use one back at the ranch in Virginia, she hated them so much, just because they were so annoying. Alena rolled over with a groan as she realized there was no way she'd be able to get back to sleep. She stared blankly at the wall for a few minutes before pushing her sheets off and clambering from off her bed. She looked around to see several of the girls still sleeping. A slight sigh escaped her lips as she retreated into the bathroom for a shower.
As the warm water flowed over her body, she thought of her experience so far at Winterthorne. It had been okay, but, what a surprise, she currently didn't have any friends. It wasn't because she didn't want to, because, although she was extremely shy, she wanted to make friends just as much as the next person. That is, assuming the next person really did want to make friends as well. She was shy. She couldn't help it. It was her nature, and it didn't help that her father pretty much guaranteed her silence. She brooded over that fact as she stared at some of the cuts embedded in her skin. Why were people to obsessed with reputation, and yet, they continued to be horrible people? That was the way her father was, that was for sure.
Nice and squeaky-clean, Alena stepped from the shower and dried off, putting her clothes on as another sigh escaped her lips. Really, the only sounds that escaped her lips were not that of words at all. They were sighs, laughs, giggles, that sort of thing. Hardly a formed worded escaped from her mouth, because it was closed so tightly, because she refused to let one escape. Exiting the bathroom, a shy smile appeared on her lips as one of her roommates waved at her. She had spent a week here, and at least her roomies had no qualms with her. Not at the moment, however. And they didn't bother her to the extreme, either. They pretty much accepted the girl as she was, and didn't think she was odd. Not too much so, anyways.
Without a word, as per usual, Alena quickly strolled through the dorm door and through the halls of the Academy. It didn't come to a surprise that most people ignored her. Who cared about a silly little freshman, anyways? Nobody did. Ever. Why? Who knew? People just automatically thought freshmen were annoying and stuff like that. Yeah, Alena annoying. The only way she could be annoying would be by her silence and ignorance of the world. And the only way her ignorance would be annoying would be if she talked, asking what such and such meant. Because Alena was ignorant of how bad the world truly was, and didn't know the cuss words that were always used, didn't know of sex and crime, and that kind of thing. She grew up away from the city, on a ranch on the outskirts of Salem. The kind of place that was secluded, and little known.
Alena took a deep breath as the girl took a step to the outside of the Academy. How Alena loved nature. Nature and the outdoors. Animals, plants. Alena loved them all, no doubt. She loved anything and everything about the outside, really. She didn't mind that the snow sent chills down her spine, despite the fact she was currently wearing a sweater and a scarf. She didn't mind that the early morning sun sent off sparkling rays of light and glared up at her from the snow, nearly blindingly. None of these things really mattered to her, just because she love the outside so much. She hadn't experienced this much snow before, however. Back in Salem, a couple of inches was actually pretty rare. It was because the climate, although cold in winter, warm in summer, not much snow usually fell, because the temperatures were just a bit too warm for the cool flakes to fall from the gray clouds.
Alena wondered around the courtyard, trying to get used to everything at Winterthorne. She knew nothing of the school. Next to nothing. The best she knew was how to get to her dorm from the main entrance and from her classes. That was probably the most she knew about the layout, mostly because it was the most helpful part to know. Because you really wanted to be able to sleep on a couch at night, and not the floor, simply because you couldn't find your way to the dorms. A structure suddenly appeared in Alena's periphial vision, and she immediately veered toward it. It might not have been that she wanted to learn about the place, it could have been pure instinct to head towards whatever new object you found.
It was, as Alena had come to find, a gazebo. The small building was often thought of to be a romantic place. Then again, Alena had never seen such a thing, and she didn't know what it was, much less what most people thought of while in it. Not that she would probably know the termonology they might use in such an instance. With a blank, slightly confused, stare, Alena walked around the sctructure, eyeing it. She had never seen a gazebo before, and the use of such a thing Alena didn't know. However, it did look rather cute. And, although it didn't protect you from the bitter wind, it could, and would, make you a bit warmer, by protecting you from the full flakes that fell from the gray clouds.
With another heaved sigh, the shy girl entered the protection that the building held against the onslaught of snow. Snow definitely wasn't something that Alena particularly liked, especially in great amounts such as this. Sure, snow was pretty okay, but she was only used to the couple inches that fell back in her hometown, not snowstorm-like amounts, such as this. She breathed a small sigh of relief as the cold was slightly stopped, for the snow no longer soaked through her clothes and onto her skin. Holding back a slightly shiver, she sat down on the bench, inhaling the scents of the roses that grew around it. It may sounds cliché, but Alena did love roses, as much as she did any other flower, pretty much. But roses were most definitely among her top. Alena glanced around the courtyard around her, where no one seemed to be in sight, and sighed again. Oh, how she would like someone to come and talk to her, someone to save her from her boredom. Even if she didn't really want to talk to them back. [/blockquote]

The thin werewolf shivered again as the cold wind and snow fell down around him. His arms tightened around his body more in a sort of self-hug. By now he'd assumed he was never get used to this stupid cold and snow. It'd been three years, now, at Winterthorne, and he still got freezing. It was probably from living in the warmer southern part of Louisiana his whole life. Well, his whole life other than the last three years, obviously. Since his last three years had been spent freezing his ass off in a huge castle for "freaks". Actually...most of the people here were freaks—but not because they had super powers. It was because...well, because of their personalities. Inn a way, everyone was a freak, right? No one was normal. Whether they were human or magyck.
Blue Converse crunched as Sammii walked. He didn't really have a set destination in place. He was just...walking. After all, he didn't really have any plans for today. Ezra was working. As usual. It really sucked...the demon was always working. It scared Sammii too. Ezra had told him not to worry about it, but it was hard not to. He was scared they wouldn't get as much time together as they had. And that's the way it was already starting to get. What about when they got older? What about next year? Ezra would be out of school completely and working even more. Sammii would be a Senior next year. And he wanted to get a job himself...so that he could get his own apartment or something. I mean, he was old enough to, and might as well be prepared. For some reason he didn't really think Ezra was going to have him move into his apartment any time soon. Sure, he had a key. But it wasn't the same as living with him. It still made him feel like a guest there or something. So it felt kinda weird to him to just...go over. Sort of like he was intruding or something. Not that he'd told Ezra that. The demon would just tell him he was being silly or stupid or something. Well, probably not stupid. But silly, probably.
After a while, the gazebo came into view through the swirling snow. That would be better protected from the falling flakes and cold wind. Sammii started to walk towards the building, trying to stop his shivering. As soon as walked in, he noticed that someone else was in here.
A smile came to the werewolf's face. "Hi Alena!" he greeted, trying to keep his voice relatively quiet. He remembered that she was really shy...and seemed to get scared of the loud noises.

A soft sigh escaped Alena’s lips once more as she made a trail around the gazebo as she inspected it. That seemed to be the only sound that ever came from her lips. It was definitely the sound that was heard most often, in any case. It wasn’t that she didn’t like talking...she just didn’t do it often, and wasn’t used to it. And habits were hard to break. And she happened to have the habit of not talking. It wasn’t something that would be broken easily, she knew. Besides, she didn’t mind being as quiet as she was. It was the way she was, she accepted that fact. Unlike most people, Alena was quite comfortable with herself, while others complained about appearance or weight. Well, weight had a part in appearance, but still. Alena liked herself the way she was. If she was quiet, okay. That was fine with her, obviously. If she wanted to be talkative, she would be. Well...with work, of course. But she didn’t see that happening. She was fine the way she was.
However, being such a silent girl sometimes had its downfall. She didn’t have many friends. There was barely anybody that she could turn to if something was wrong. And making friends? It was harder than you might think. For her, anyways. For those that were more talkative than she, perhaps it was quite easy. But how could one make friends if said person didn’t talk much? It wasn’t like she’d up and saying to someone ‘Hi, I’m Alena, who are you?’ Because that just wasn’t possible. Making friends was hard for the shy girl, no matter the fact that she would like more friends. She just...couldn’t make them well. It was just the way she was. She hadn’t even had many friends back in Virginia, where she had lived before coming here. Most people seemed somewhat frightened of her. Well, not her, but most likely her father. He was a ruthless journalist, and Alena’s peers thought that Alena, being the only child of him, would be much the same. And they most definitely didn’t like the fact that it could occur. They didn’t care that her personality was quite the opposite of her father’s; they just didn’t want to take any chance of it.
When a voice, although one soft, quickly ruined the silence that had surrounded her-she hadn’t even heard his approach-Alena jumped slightly, her eyes growing big as she quickly looked over to where Sammii stood, just inside the gazebo. A slight squeak escaped from in between her lips at the surprise he gave her. She knew Sammii, if only because his boyfriend, how odd that was, Ezra had introduced them, really. She wasn’t a homophobe, in any case, but the thought was still a bit...weird to her. Even if most relationships around seemed to be totally screwed up in that way. ”O-oh!” she managed to stutter out after her squeak, her voice still slightly high pitched. She gently chewed her lip before saying something. She felt as if it would only be right to say something else besides ‘Oh.’ It would be quite rude, really, if you asked her. And, although generally quiet, she wasn’t one to be rude to others. ”H-hi Sammii...how are you?” she murmured quietly, looking at the floor shyly. She glanced up at him again, giving him a small smile as she waited for his answer. Oh, this was a bit uncomfortable. But...maybe this would help her just be a little more talkative...and so she could really gain some friends.

For a second, Sammii felt bad as Alena just said 'O-oh!' as if he'd scared her. Well, hopefully he hadn't scared her. He had expected to surprise her though, from the previous meetings how shy she was was pretty obvious. Although...he didn't really know Alena that well (he doubted really anyone here really knew Alena). The only reason they were acquaintences was really because of Ezra. The demon always seemed to have cupcakes or something (which Sammii had no idea where he got all those cupcakes from—hopefully he hadn't baked them himself) and he would give some to the girl. Still, Alena never even seemed to talk to Ezra that much. Which it was kind of surprising she even seemed to trust him at all. No offense to Ezra, but looked pretty scary sometimes even to Sammii. It was weird that a girl as shy and quiet as Alena wouldn't seem scared of him. At least in Sammii's point of view. Unless there was something about Ezra that didn't seem as scary as he was to Sammii. Maybe that was because the werewolf knew more about Ezra than most people did. That could explain how the demon got away with so many things...
When Alena spoke again, asking how he was, the smile on Sammii's face grew wider than it had been. Mabe he'd actually be able to hold out conversation with Alena. That would be pretty cool. She seemed like such a sweet girl, if you could only get to know and talk to her a bit. And Sammii thought it would be so cool to be friends with her. Plus he felt sort of bad that she was so shy, because she seemed not to have any friends here. And that wasn't any fun. I mean, if you ahd to go to high school in a castle in the middle-of-nowhere Germany and you had to live there, you'd want at least one friend, wouldn't you? Well, that was the way Sammii viewed it. So all he really wanted was to be friendly with Alena and hopefully make friends with her. That way she wouldn't be so lonely. Of course, there was always the option she didn't want any friends and she was jus anti-social, but something told Sammii that wasn't the case. Usually anti-social people would lash out and tell you to leave them alone. Alena seemed just plain shy.
"I'm doing great. How are you?" the werewolf said, smile still wide on his face. He buried his hands further into the sleeves of his jacket, trying to stay as warm as possible. At least it was more protected from the snow in here. It wasn't falling on him in large amounts. Even though his hair probably looked almost white, so much snow was probably suck in it. It probably looked really funny.
