He couldn’t take this any more. He had been locked up in his apartment for three days since the dance, wasting his life away in the dim light that shone through his apartment. Everything was dark and dreary, as if it was raining all the time. The shutters and curtains had been drawn to shut out any interfering means of light; the doors and windows were locked, his cell phone was shut off, and he didn’t answer any of the calls on the home phone. The only noise that sounded those three days was the beeping of the voicemail machine coming on and the streaming of words that followed from whoever happened to call him. He hadn’t paid any attention to them. In fact, he hadn’t paid much attention to anything. He’d spent his days lying in bed, thinking about what he’d seen and blocking out everyone else in the world. Just watching the seconds, minutes, and hours tick by on his clock.
He hadn’t slept, but he didn’t care. By the third day he had realized that feeling sorry for himself was doing absolutely nothing on his side. Simply thinking about his problems wasn’t going to do anything about them. He needed to talk to Dani, and he needed to do it soon. But first he was going to see Sammii and apologize for being so distant. He knew that the werewolf worried about him, and he had no fucking idea why he did stupid shit like locking himself in his apartment for three days when he knew that it was going to kill the other. They already had limited time; between school (where they were caught in different grades and could only see each other in the hallways), his job at the Secret, and the fact that Sammii lived at school and he didn’t, Ezra didn’t see him that much. Next year was going to be hell, too. The school factor would be taken away from him. He’d start working more. Maybe even Sammii would get a job. All this plus the fact that his boyfriend’s best friend was in love with him, well...it didn’t add up to staying another day in hiding.
He found himself striding through the halls at Winterthorne at seven thirty at night. There was no need to worry about things like keys; the only one he needed was the key to the gate, which hung on a silver string around his neck as always. The dorms were usually open. Security wasn’t really a problem at a school where kids could spurt fire and acid out of their fingertips. Even if they weren’t open, there were a million ways to get in. He could teleport in. There were two reasons he hadn’t already: one, it made him feel slightly more human to just walk places (not to mention the exercise). Two, it scared the shit out of Sammii. Not that he wasn’t amused by the junior’s face every time he popped up out of nowhere...he just wasn’t in the mood for arguing. He knew he had a lot of sucking up to do, and frightening the poor boy wasn’t going to help at all.
He reached the second dorm. Praying that no one else was in there (why the fuck did he have to share a dorm with four other guys?!), he sighed and leaned against it for a moment. No going back now. Raising an eyebrow as he tried the door, he found it locked. Well. He slid his fingers into his pocket and withdrew a tiny slab of metal, which he called his “key-ring”. As soon as he pressed it against the lock, it contorted to fit it exactly. He turned it, opening the door and looking down at the key as he slid it back into his pocket. He lifted his gaze, smoothing back a strand of his hair as he called out, “Sammii? Sorry I’ve been out, it’s just—” Ezra broke off, looking at the red-head who sat on his bed. “Uh.”

The bed creaked just a little as she moved to half sit, half lay on it. The sheets were soft and warm around her; messy and unmade as usual. Yeah, that was Sammii’s bed for you. She’d been here too many times to even wonder if it would ever get made and after a while, she realized that, no, it would. Teenage boys were way too into other things (such as Ezra’s) to be concerned about making a bed. Which was precisely why she was here in the first place. Okay, that’s a lie. She didn’t know why she was here really. It might have been because she needed to talk to Sammii or maybe she just needed to see a happy face. Sammii was like a little kid. He was into it all, disney movies, kiddie games, being silly. Not that that was a bad thing. She Liked that Sammii was innocent and just a little naïve. It made it harder for him to comprehend that she was in love with him.
Yeah, there it was out in the open. Not like everyone except Sammii himself didn’t already know. Some people seemed to figure it out before she did! That happens sometimes when you bottle up feelings and deny things from yourself. She had gone way too long pretending she wasn’t in love with her best friend. Do you know what it feels like to be in love with someone so much only to have spend every waking minute talking about someone else and how much they love instead of you. It rips at your insides and slowly eats away with you until whatever is left is nothing but a hollow shell of emptiness because all you think about is that one person. They encircle your mind and leave you absolute breathless when you think about them and speechless when you see their face. You heart stops beating every time they smile then it falls into the pit of your stomach when you realize its them they’re smiling about. That has to be the worst feeling in the world.
Hence the reason why she here, again. Apart from the fact that he was her best friend. The absolute most amazing friend in the world. No one could measure to Sammii. These thoughts made DanI’s stomach growl with pain. How had she gotten so far into this mess without even knowing? All of this had just turned into a big big mess. It had quickly escalated into a simple crush to more than she had it meant. She hadn’t chosen this. She didn’t want it. How well, she knew that she would never been good enough for her best friend. Best friend. God, she hated that word. It only made her think of Sammii. What was she supposed to do? There was nothing to do but keep it a secret and hope that he never found out. She couldn’t take hurting him like that. She didn’t want him to feel worse than he already did. If she could have reached out turned the knob to her emotions she would have.
So where was Sammii, you may ask. Well, she honestly didn’t know. She was here on a chance hoping he would come home soon. She had no idea what she was going to say to him when he got here only that she knew she needed to spend some time with him. He was also so busy with school and Ezra, she felt a bit pushed aside. She wasn’t going to say anything, obviously, but she was hoping that maybe showing up like would give her a chance to figure something out. There were too many thoughts in her head to properly recognize the turning off a knob or the sound of footsteps outside. It wasn’t until that his voice rang out that she sat up, eyes wide and annoyance peaking. Oh, joy. “Hi, Ezra.” She would not be mean just because she hated his existence right now because he was the reason Sammii was spending so little time with her….

What the hell was she doing in his room?! All sorts of thoughts and scenarios ran through his mind as he saw her laying—well, sort of laying—on his bed, the sheets tousled about in the classic “I really don’t give a fuck” fashion. That was Sammii. He’d always been too a little too hyper and childish to care about things like making his bed or locking the doors to his dorm (which, apparently, had finally gotten through to him—god, it should’ve, considering the countless times he had told him that). He was more into playing games and eating cookies and watching Disney movies to care much about other things. It was either a curse to be so innocent, not giving a second thought about anything, or a blessing to not have to worry about things that ordinary people did. Whatever was going on in that boy’s head, he hoped it had nothing to do with Dani. Unfortunately, it usually did. They were best friends. They did everything together. Though friendship had always been a mind-boggling thing, he was pretty sure it didn’t include all the worrisome things that had flowed into his mind.
“Is...Sammii here?” By the tired and slightly annoyed expression on her face when he entered, he probably wasn’t. He and Dani weren’t actually the greatest of friends. Actually, the only time they really were friends was when Sammii was around, and it was only for his sake. Things had gotten worse between them, actually. Not that Ezra had really seen her since the dance—well, he hadn’t seen anyone—but the tension otherwise had grown between them. Aside from the fact that she was in love with his boyfriend, leaving her to the torture of Killingston, abandoning her at the dance, and overall being pissed with the fact that she had any sort of a chance at Sammii wasn’t exactly bringing them closer together. If anything, he was ready to jump on top of the bed, pin her down, and melt her face off. Which kind of sucked. She would’ve been such a good friend—according to the werewolf, the best—if only he wasn’t a jealous asshole. But he was, so there was no point in trying to go back to they way they used to be.
He wasn’t really sure what to say. “Oh, hey! I just happened to be looking for Sammii in his dorm while you lay here, sprawled across his bed. By the way, I know you’re in love with my boyfriend, and I’m not at all excited to have you join his ever-growing fan club. So you mind if I tell you to back the fuck away—forever?!” That was really going to work. Still, he needed to talk to her. To tell her to...to tell Sammii. He couldn’t just sit and wait around for all eternity, always watching his back and catching her quick and nervous glances at him. Ezra was going to make her tell him the truth, no matter what it took. He just needed a way to bring up the subject. Walking forward a few steps, he nodded to the bed. “Can I sit down?” he muttered, gesturing to what free space there was on it. How to start this off...straight forward “I know you love Sammii” approach, or beat around the bush until she gave in and asked him herself? “What’re you doing here?” Well, that was obvious. Sammii. Yeah, he was off to a great start...
