The hustle and bustle of the cafeteria. Annoying, but inescapable. Alex was hungry, so he had no choice but to come down here. He grabbed a jacket potato with cheese and found an unoccupied table, sitting at it and tucking in.
Whenever he felt eyes on him, he glanced around looking for whoever was staring at him and flashed them a warning glare. It was enough to keep people away, and Alex was more than pleased with himself for it. There was, however, one problem; a girl in the crowd who seemed to be glancing his way every so often. It began to make the boy feel a little uneasy.

It had been, so far, a boring day. Classes were boring, teachers were boring, everything was just boring. At least the day was half over. The school day, anyways. The whole day? Not so much. But the school day was, which was good. That meant it was time for some food. Jordan wasn't a pig, but she did love to eat food. Good thing? She had a fast metabolism, which made sure she stayed all skinniful like she was. Bad thing? School food was generally disgusting. Well, maybe not so disgusting, but unappetizing, yeah. But Winterthorne was better with food than most schools. One of the reasons was the fact that the school had to provide for all three meals; breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Not that many schools had to do that. Much more in Europe, though. But Winterthorne was a boarding school, they provided food. Another reason for the better food could be the fact that they weren't normal. They were far from normal. At least in the ignorant eyes of the humans. Winterthorne couldn't risk having kids get sick off of the food because of salmonella or something. Some pyrokinetic might start farting flames or something. Who knew? But it would be bad to have bad food at Winterthorne. So, it was good enough. It still had that "school food" kind of aura around it, that made you think that it might not be a good idea to eat it. Oh well.
The crowd of people in the cafeteria was always horrific. No matter how fast Jay flew to get to the cafeteria, there was already a large crowd there. Then again, some of them could teleport themselves. Others could fly as well, but had been closer to the cafeteria than Jay had been. Others morphed into animals and ran or flew at top speeds to grab some grub. The mad dash to the cafeteria was just like a battleground, but for agility and speed, to see who could get to the goal the fastest. Everything at the school was about using powers in various ways, tasks that took you forever to figure out that it was a battle for something just like everything else. It hadn't taken Jordan long to figure that out about getting to the cafeteria.
She finally made her way through the long line. Another good thing about boarding school? They had longer lunches. That made for a longer total school day, but at least you could actually eat your lunch and be able to enjoy it. You didn't have to stuff it down your throat to be able to make it to class in time. They had a long, leisurely lunch period, which made room for talking with some friends. Or enemies, or whatever worked. Jordan, for one, was glad to still have this system. The French school system allowed for a long lunch period as well, but still a longer school day. But then again, her school wasn't a boarding school in France, so it was better here than back there. Just the thought of France made her force back a shudder.
She sat down at her normal table. This was the table that she had sat at ever since...well, she met Evie. Well, ever since Evie sat down next to her and began talking to her, the day after the girl had knocked her over. They were best buddies, and only one of the few people she usually ate lunch with. It was always good to have friends, it was indeed. But it wasn't fun to have friends that decided to go out without her. Because that was what had happened. Actually, Evie and Dani had invited her to go down to the village to grab a bite, but she had forgotten about that, as usual, and went to the cafeteria. It was only now, after she had finished eating her food, that she had remembered this. Well, she didn't have any friends with her currently....so why not make some more? She loved making friends.
She looked around at the many faces. All of them differed in slight ways. No two face was exactly the same. Sure, here and there, there were faces that were remarkably similar, but never any the same. No two noses were exactly the same. Some were smaller, some were larger. Some curved slightly like a beak, others upturned slightly, in a pert fashion. Eyes were different too. That one was thinner, that one squinty. This one was slanted slightly, that one wide. Even the jaws and bone structure varied from person to person. This one had an angular face, that one was rotund. No two people had the same exact features. It was impossible. Even twins had differences. Small ones, yes, but twins weren't exactly the same, no matter how much they may attempt to be.
As she looked around in the sea of faces, one in particular caught her attention. There wasn't anything remarkable about the guy. He was cute, sure, but not remarkably so. And yet, she could tell he was different. He turned his head towards her. Not at her. He glared at a person a couple rows away who had happened to be staring at him. Jordan blinked, surprised. He didn't seem to be extremely rude, not on the outside, anyways. Not until he glared. That was a surprise. She could help but glance his way every so often, seeing him glare at other people that looked his way. He didn't like to be stared at, it seemed. Several times, Jordan noticed, she caught his eye. He glared at her as well, which made her nervous. She hadn't done anything wrong for him to glare at her. So she didn't look away. She didn't blink. She simply returned his gaze, until he looked away. It happened several times. After the third time he looked away, Jordan gathered up her trash, and threw it in the trash can, before sitting down across from him. She placed her elbows on the table, and folded her hands, placing her chin on them, her eyes studying him. "What exactly is your problem? That you keep glaring at people when they happen to look at you?" She inquired softly. Her tone wasn't angry, wasn't impatient. Her tone was questioning, inquiring, wanting to know. "I'm Jordan Bailey, by the way." [/blockquote]

How hopelessly predictable. Alex knew this was going to happen. His response to the girl's question was already prepared.
"What does it matter to you?" he retorted venomously. He wasn't one for socialising. Hell, the only reason he came down here was to eat - and he fully intended to leave once his meal was finished. He turned his attention to the girl's introduction. "You're sadly mistaken if you think for a second that I'm going to divulge information of any kind, much less my name, to some random girl I'll probably never talk to again."
The boy was ice-cold to the core, and he loved it.

Okay, so she had figured out the boy was rude. That much she had figured out. She had already guessed that from his cold glares. There was no reason to be so cruel, especially to people he didn't know. Jordan, for one, was always nice to people she hadn't met before. She didn't know their personality. But once that was shown in front of her eyes, she probably wouldn't talk to them ever again. If she talked to her, she'd probably be a bit mean, yes, but because of what they did. Or if she had already seen such-and-such do something mean, and then they wanted to meet her, she wouldn't talk to them nicely, because she already knew they were mean. That was her system, because she didn't like mean and rude people. Seriously.
But she didn't know this guy. She knew she would've remembered him had she met him. Or even seen him. But she most definitely didn't know him. Therefore, she had no reason to dislike him. Even with his rude comments. She could put up with those. How people treated her, she didn't care. How people treated others, that's what really mattered to her. But she guessed it would be the same way. But she hadn't seen a display of rudeness like this to anybody else. Then again, because of his glare, most people wouldn't want to come over and talk to him. Of course, Jordan wasn't most people.
"It doesn't," She replied simply. It didn't truly matter, it was simply something she wanted to know. He didn't have to tell her, of course, she only would like him to. She couldn't make him, and she wouldn't...probably. "It was only a simple question." She watched as he finally turned to her. The expression in his eyes wasn't exactly nice. But that didn't matter to her. She was a bit intrigued by this guy covered in an ice cold shell. She knew that he could break free of it, if he tried. Let someone near him. But it seemed that he currently didn't want to. Ah, it didn't matter, but he was most interesting. "I wasn't searching for your name, although it would be most helpful. I was simply providing mine. And sure, I'm just some random girl, but you'll notice soon enough, that although you may never talk to me again, you'll probably notice me more. That's what happens when you talk to someone new, whether you want to or not, you'll see more of them, because you know a bit about them." It was true. Heavens knew how many times she'd seen some people, although they may not be called friends, that she had met, and talked to before, when before she had even met them, she never noticed them. It was just something that often happened, oddly. [/blockquote]

Painful as it was to admit such a thing, this Jordan girl was right. She hadn't specifically asked him his name; he'd merely assumed she was expecting him to respond in kind. On top of that, something about what she'd said troubled him. Indeed, she was correct; he'd notice her more now that he knew who she was. He'd forever be seeing her face among the crowds of students as they went about their business.
Sighing in resignation, Alex looked at her, a rather blank expression on his otherwise hostile semblant. "Maybe so," he replied. "But I'll have you know, I'm not the most sociable of people, as you've no doubt guessed. Name's Alexander."

Inside her head, Jordan smirked in triumph. She wouldn't actually do it, it would make her seem really cocky, something she most definitely wasn't. No, she wasn't cocky, she wasn't arrogant. She didn't think herself above others, obviously, and she didn't show off. Really, she hid her art and music until it was finished, and even then, she didn't think it too special. She knew there were others that were so much better than her. And yet, people kept on pressing that she was a good artist, she had a good voice, she could play guitar well. Sometimes she wished they would cut the crap and scream out that she wasn't that good...but that definitely wasn't like her. She didn't have many enemies, she was hardly ever sad, hardly ever mad. Some people may think her a fake, because she was so hyper and generally crazy all the time, but she most definitely wasn't. Heck, she really hated fakers, anyways. Point in case, she wasn't arrogant, wasn't cocky. Therefore, she didn't actually smirk in her triumph over him.
Jordan couldn't deny that he was interesting. He had a nearly impenetrable shield around him, one that people wouldn't be able to break easily. He held it tight around him. He wanted to be approached by others, somewhere deep inside, probably, but when they did, he just wouldn't allow them to get close to him. Well....that just didn't sit well with her. She didn't care how he treated her, but if he treated others just as bad, which he probably did, she'd just....have to get him to stop. However she could do that. She didn't like unsociable people, especially if they were mean if approached. But she'd do her best to try to change that. Even if this guy was taller, and a heck of a lot more balanced, than her.
A grin crossed her lips at his words. "Yeah, I've kind of guessed that." Who wouldn't be able to guess that? I mean, he was rude, mean, unsociable? Definitely. Although, most people probably would've left at the first rude word that left his lips, she wouldn't. She never would. Not unless she was, oddly, in a really bad mood. "But I don't care if you're unsociable. I'll still talk to you anyways, most likely. Just because I know you and stuff...because if you couldn't guess, I'm highly sociable. I ain't a social butterfly or popular or whatever, I'm just like....hyper a lot, and I like to have friends." She grinned cutely at her own words. Well, it was true. She was very hyper, and she definitely loved to have friends. Some people might think she was popular, just because most people seemed to know her, but she didn't think herself that way. Besides, she could care less if she was popular or not. She was just....Jordan. She didn't like to be labeled, classified, or grouped into any category. It was stupid. But whatever. "Nice to meet you, Alexander." The name was too long. Besides, nicknames were awesome. "Mind if I call you Alex?" She prayed that he would let her. Alexander was such a mouthful...besides, Alex was a good name, anyways. [/blockquote]
