If he said he wasn’t even just the tiniest bit turned on by Xio’s moaning, he was lying. Holy damn he was lying his pants off. Evan couldn’t help but absolutely collapse at the small noises she was making. He finally let every single sound out from his throat, no restraints. He pushed his body a little harder against hers, as if hoping she’d continue with the noises. He’d do anything to have her make those sounds again. God. Anything.
But that was before the situation at hand. Before his dumb powers decided it was a good time to work. Before he was on the ground beside her, shaking. He looked up at her through clouded eyes, the worry across her face making his heart break. Evan’s brain was spinning and feeling made him a little sicker than normal. Sure, he was used to the feeling after feeling emotions, but never had he felt such a strong emotion. Especially one he didn’t favor too much.
“I’m sorry!”
Her apology was briskly returned with a rapid head shake. And maybe that wasn’t such a great idea. He paused, lying on his back for a moment, inhaling deeply. He took a few steadying breaths before looking up at her, eyes wide, almost frightened. His psycometry was the only power he hadn’t bothered to control. But dear God how he wished he had. It was an awful thing, really. Inconvenient, too.
“No,” he croaked out, still trying to even out his breathing. “No, no, Xio, it wasn’t you,” he muttered quietly, sitting up slowly. He rubbed his head, tangling his fingers deep within his hair. “It’s my dumb fucking power,” he mumbled, staring at his hand not in his hair. He let out a sigh, closing his eyes. He really wished he hadn’t been given such ‘gifts’. It’s right about now that he hated his power. “I-I’m sorry,” he said under his breath, looking up at her sadly. He removed his hand from his hair, briefly pushing up his glasses before placing it carefully on her shoulder. He rubbed his hand up and down her arm comfortingly, forcing a small smile.
In the back of his mind, Xio’s movie played on repeat, the emotion still reverberating within him. Loneliness. It was a feeling that Evan had experienced before and it brought back terrible memories. Such terrible things were accompanied with the feeling of loneliness. And with the event that had just happened, he’s pretty sure Xio could agree.

Will fingers uncross? Will these knots untie?
There was no other way to explain how it felt to hear Evan moan like that. It was…hot. Sexy. Scintillating. It was almost too much too handle then he pushed his body against hers and she was gone. She was so out of there, it wasn’t even funny. He shouldn’t have been allowed to look like that; to have that effect on her. He was fifteen, for god sakes! That tiny detail was the only thing holding her back and to just have his body on hers like that, brushed the thought from her mind and made her shake and groan into his kiss then pull him tighter.
She might have done anything at this point except that he was no longer on her, but lying next to her, staring up at her so that felt that fear rush back into her stomach as she searched his face for an answer. His was so pale right now, she could sworn he had seen a ghost. Something had happened but she had no idea what. Chances were, she was to blame and that scared Xio. It always ended up this way. She got to close to someone and they either ditched her or she got too comfortable and she scared them if she didn’t hurt them. That was one main reasons she had stopped trying to be nice to everyone. It was so much easier to hate them and not have to worry about their safety.
She was sure he was going to get up and tell her to leave or just leave himself or something but he just shook his head and that small notion, despite the fact that she still didn’t know what was going on, made her feel a little better. If it was her fault, he apparently didn’t hate her? Or was this his way of telling her to shut up? Seeing him this way, hardly able to breath straight was torture. She frowned and sat on her knees next to him. She wanted to grab his hand and ask him what was going on, but she too afraid this was her fault. In fact, she was sure it was. Someway or another.
“No, no, Xio, it wasn’t you”
Those few words let her relax again and she breathed a sigh or relief. He didn’t sound so bad anymore. Xio’s eyes narrowed in confusion and she stared at him. His powers? She didn’t understand. Why was he sorry? What powers? She was so lost. As far as she knew he could create illusions and could read minds sometimes. Neither of which she could see being a problem when you were making out with someone. The way he had move away from her…she had thought he was hurt or something. She forced a weak smile onto her lips, glad he was okay; glad that he wasn’t running from her. “What happened?” She asked softly, moving so that she was sitting by his side again. She would have lay down next to him, but she wanted to see face so she settled for taking his hand before she looked down at him in question.

Evan let out a low growl, but not out of passion, but for frustration. He hated his power so much. Psycometry has never proven itself useful and it definitely damned itself now. Evan looked up at Xio, his eyes full of shame. He really wished he could have been able to control the situation better. Oh God, he’d give anything just to rewind. The worry strewn across her beautiful face made him want to drown himself in the lake. He never wanted to see her like that. Never. Especially the almost pained smile that seemed slightly forced upon her lips. He was pretty sure his heart cracked in twelve places.
“What happened?”
He let out a sigh, trying to rearrange his scattered thoughts. It wasn’t exactly the most exciting thing to see someone’s life laid out before you in the way it just had. To Evan, it was almost like invasion. Not something he liked to do, really. He felt her hand in his and he instinctively squeezed it tightly. He wasn’t quite sure how to tell her that he had pretty much seen and felt everything she ever felt or seen since she bought the shirt she was wearing.
“Well,” he said slowly, tangling his fingers with hers, “My – my other power, you see, it’s real dumb, and it doesn’t quite work when I want it to…” He shook his head, realizing he was rambling. An unpleasant habit he had for when he was confused or nervous. But in this case, it was worse. “You see, I – I can see and feel things that other people feel and see through their clothing. Like, through stuff they’ve worn during that time period, sometimes later,” he explained, not really thinking too much about it. “An – And apparently, it decided to work during the most inconvenient time,” he muttered bitterly, grazing his thumb over her knuckles, “And… And I felt your emotions. Like… Everything you’ve felt up until now.”
Evan looked up into her eyes, silently pleading she wouldn’t hate him for almost invading her private space. Feelings were meant to be kept. Especially loneliness. He squeezed her hand again gently, as if praying she’d stay with him. He prayed she wouldn’t leave him for his accident. “I didn’t mean to,” he said quietly, his tone border lining pathetic and childlike. “I’m really sorry, Xio,” he said, looking away from her sadly.

Sighs like the one he had just given were never, ever good. Nothing good ever followed that type of sigh. Like he didn’t know how to explain the crap that had just happened or wasn’t sure how to handle it. It made her nervous to see him this way. As long as she had known Evan he had always been so in control. Even for his age, he had always been calm and confident. Like he knew everything was going to out perfectly. Apart from the first time they had ever met of course. He had been awkwardly shy that day, and now that she looked back it didn’t fit his stature. It wasn’t Evan to be like that at all. Whatever was bothering him now had to be worse than she thought.
Okay, none of this was making any sense to her at all. So he had another power, obviously. One she hadn’t noticed or been told about. Okay. And it had done something to him? She hadn’t felt anything, it obviously hadn’t done anything to her…
“You see, I – I can see and feel things that other people feel and see through their clothing. Like, through stuff they’ve worn during that time period, sometimes later”
Xio’s eyebrows knit together in confusion. So he could feel stuff through her clothes? Or what? She was so lost. She sat in silence, their hands tangling together and she struggled to understand what happened that had Evan so nervous and upset. How had it been inconvinient? She thought that thing were going pretty good…she’s been having fun for the first time in a long time. So what was the problem here? She let him go on, keeping quiet and then it became so much clearer. Then she realized why it was so upsetting to him and why he was looking at her like that. She wondered what expression she wore when it all clicked together.
“And… And I felt your emotions. Like… Everything you’ve felt up until now.”
Xio blinked and out of habit, her hand came up to pull a loose strand of her hair. He knew? Like, he’d been inside her mind? The thought made her take in a shaky breath. The red that had been waiting to invade her cheeks made its triumphant way their and she looked away, still blinking, still trying to keep her composure. She felt so…so…exposed. So book like. Were all of secrets out now? Did he know what kind of destruction she left behind her when she got too close to people. Could he feel the desire that had burned in her chest just now? The back of her eyes burned with the will to cry but she couldn’t even do that. Her eyes were empty. She felt a little empty. Like she was no longer her own person. Maybe to anyone it wouldn’t have been such a problem but this, her secrets, her desires, her wrongs were just laid out for him to see and that scared her. And the loneliness. She hadn’t even thought about the loneliness. Her mind skipped over that thought as usual, a silent passing of the retched emotion that had once taken over her. Once she had learned to bottle it up and push it away it was much easier to try and forget about it. Not fully, of course. There was no escaping the loneliness but it was close enough that she didn’t register it ripping her apart inside. And she didn’t realize what it might do to Evan. How it might make him feel to endure that emotion. Through her eyes. To that degree.
Xio shook her head absently and let her mouth but nothing could come out. She wasn’t angry with Evan. She knew he hadn’t done it on purpose. All she could do was swallow the feeling of being bare, uncovered and tug on her hair. “Evan…I‘m not--I‘m not angry…” She assured him softly, squeezing his hand as if to prove it. “Um…I just--what did you see or...feel…?” She bit her lips and forced herself to meet his eyes. Did he hate her now that he‘d seen what she could do to people? “Do you hate me?” She asked softly.

He didn’t need telepathy to read her thoughts. He didn’t need psychometry to know how she felt. Evan could see it all written clearly over her face. She felt… exposed, the way he had expected her to. But he wouldn’t have done it if he knew these chaotic emotions would be inflicted on her. Oh how he wished he could control it. A frown creased his brow and lips at the vacancy taking home in her eyes. Once so happy, almost… passionate, they became barren in a matter of minutes.
“I felt…,” he muttered, briefly closing his eyes, letting the feeling wash over him again, “Sad. Lonely.” He looked back up at her, a look of uncertainly undoubtedly ruling his face. “And…” he breathed, thoughts trailing off. Inside, he debated whether or not he should tell her everything he saw. To him, it didn’t seem like anything significant. It was just ridicule from other students. So much cruelty… And then… The one time she defended herself. “And,” he repeated, his eyes trained somewhere afar, “The time you fought back.” He shifted his glance back to lock his eyes with hers, his brain sifting through memories he’s collected through the years.
“Do you hate me?”
The moment the words left her lips, Evan quickly sat himself up, mimicking Xio’s position. He quickly untangled one of his hands from the mess of fingers connecting them. Cautiously, he cupped her cheek, whispering, “No, no, no, no.” Once he began, he couldn’t stop. He kept repeating the word over and over again, getting quieter with each spoken syllable. Twenty six times. He felt a stinging from the back of his eyes; tears. The wetness forming along the rims of his eyes weren’t induced by powers or such. They were just pure concern.
He finally stopped with the word, thumb tracing across her cheekbone, he leaned forward carefully, placing a tender kiss on her other cheek. Evan pressed his nose to her cheek, placing kisses in between each words that followed. “I could never hate you.”

This feeling, this emotions, it was the only was she felt like was left. Maybe that sounds a little stupid but couldn’t help it. She felt exposed like everything was out in the open. Except for that loneliness. It was still there, perched in her chest, filling her up because she had no secrets or good feelings to hide it. It shouldn’t have mattered this much to her. So he knew. Oh well, right? Wrong. She couldn’t stand the idea of him seeing all the awful thing she had done in the past. And even worse, was his power like hers? When she touched people and took on their memories, thoughts, traits, everything, she retained the. The emotions often stayed with her for a while. Did that mean he felt as lonely as had? The thought of him feeling as low as she made her want to cry. She didn’t want to have know that felt like.
“I felt…sad. Lonely.”
That killed her. It just killed her to hear those words come from him. She gripped his hands and struggled for a way to apologize. It was one thing for him to know what she had felt but have him feel it too? That was just cruel. And? And what? Xio’s mouth dropped a little in fear and she searched his face. What else had he seen?
“The time you fought back.”
Xio froze in place, her body going with rigid. Another emotion made its way back and something close to fear made inhale sharply. She shook her head; struggling to keep the tears behind her eyes again. “That--I--didn’t--I had--” There was a need to defend herself no matter how awful what she had done had been. “I had to,” She croaked out when his eyes met hers. His were probably filled with concern but hers were filled with shame and tears that obscured her vision. “I--” She inhaled again, the feeling of not having enough oxygen taking over her. “She told me she was going to push me down the stairs and watch me bleed,“ hse whispered as if she was confessing a crime instead of self defense. “She called me a freak.”
She was positive that he hater her, she was so sure…Xio blinked in surprise, Evan now sitting up before her and sniffed just a little. She would not cry, she would not. His words were a soft reassurance that maybe she did have a little hope. He kept repeating it and she forced herself to believe him with every word until he faded into silence and she gulped down apprehension. She tightened her grip on the hand she was still holding and blinked furiously. oh, please don’t cry/ If Evan cried over something as silly as her, she would cry too.
Her eyes drifted shut in a pathetic attempt to regain happiness and she savored the feeling of him so close, despite the situation. She found it hard to believe him. Everyone who knew what she could and had done always ended up hating her. But he sounded so sincere and when his face touched hers like that and he placed a kiss at her cheek she couldn’t think straight enough to not believe him. She wanted to believe him. Xio bit her lip and sighed a small sigh of relief at his words, her heart fluttering. What is wrong to feel this way about him? Maybe it wasn’t a good idea to get attached to Evan…he was only fifteen. It wasn’t one year of difference, it was three. Did that make a difference? Should it? Did it even matter? Xio turned her head and let her lips meet Evan’s softly. Just enough for a light kiss. Right now, it didn’t matter.

“She told me she was going to push me down the stairs and watch me bleed,“
He nodded in a sort of understanding. He understood, sort of. He saw it all, he felt how she felt. Evan shook his head sadly, letting out a sigh with her last statement. She didn’t deserve to be told any of this. Xio didn’t deserve being called a freak. She didn’t deserve getting picked on. Hell, Evan thought she deserved better than him. She deserved someone that was better than himself, to comfort her better than he could. The thought made him frown but he quickly wiped it away as he looked back up at her. “You don’t deserve to be treated this way,” Evan said quietly. “Xio, you’re so much better than that,” he muttered, more to himself than her. “You’re not a freak,” he added a few moments later. “You’re lovely,” he said with a small smile.
The small sigh released from her lips made his emotions level out again. It was a soft sign that she was okay. They were both okay. A small smile crawled its way across his lips as her own lips touched his softly. Evan felt his heart skip every third beat and he was pretty sure that he could have passed out from this. He pulled away for a moment, just to look her in the eyes. “You’re lovely,” he breathed with another small smile. “So very lovely.” He pulled her body close against his, connecting their lips once more.
Maybe it wasn’t his place to say, but he was pretty sure he was falling for her. So very badly. He didn’t want to admit it, because, well, there were quite a few things that made him keep these feelings in the back of his mind. He knew what she was thinking – of course he did. Age. It wasn’t a bothersome fact to Evan. Not in the least. He didn’t mind that he was three years her junior, but he knew she did, and that hurt him a bit. Maybe, the back of his mind muttered, she didn't like him the way he liked her. The thoughts made Evan’s heart crack about twenty-four times over, but he didn’t let it affect him on the outside. He couldn’t let her see he was falling for her. He wouldn’t let her know he was afraid about what would happen when he hit the ground.

What if it was you? You were all I needed, all along...
It was self defense, she reminded herself and squeezed her eyes shut. He seemed to understand that and that alone let her breath a little better. As long as Evan did not hate her for things she had done, she found she could hate herself a little less. Being told these kinds of things wasn’t something she was used to. She was more used to be told she wasn’t good enough and being told she was worthless and a monster but that she didn’t deserve to be treated this way? It was a new one to ponder. Coming from Evan, it meant a lot more to her. Not a freak? She almost laughed but that would have been mean. It was an odd compliment she was slightly afraid to accept. Xio lifted gaze to catch his small smile and bit her lip in that shyness she would never escape. She had never been called lovely before, either.
The way he made her heart skip around wasn’t normal but she didn’t mind it one bit. She didn’t feel so empty anymore the way she had only a few minutes ago. Feeling that way had sucked but it hadn’t been on purpose so it didn’t scare her as much. And she was glad Evan had been the one to see/feel those memories. She found he was more compassionate than other people. Of course, she blushed bright red when she locked eyes with him and had to stifle a shy grin. “So very lovely” had never sounded sweet coming from anyone else. Actually, she doubted anyone could make it sound as lovely as he did.
Xio gripped him back and absently pushed the boy backward, one hand on his chest so that she was now on him, hovering over him for just a split second before meeting his lips again. It was more of absently chosen move than a planned one. She had realized what she done at all, she just wanted to be close to him again. In the back of her mind, tiny voices kept reminding her that in America, this was basically illegal. But they were Europe now, so screw America and their rules. She only had a tiny bit of courage so she was going to use it and be happy. What was this? Was this love? No, she doubted she could love anyone, or anyone could love her. Was this just a simple crush that would die in the end? Whatever it was, for now, she liked it. She was so irrevocable fallen for Evan Warner and it scared her now he might not feel the same way so she pushed that thought aside. Right now, things were perfect. When the time came (If it was coming) for her heart to break, she would take it and accept it.
