...dark hue and fear driven...
No, he wasn't the type to sit and mope. No, he wasn't the type to pity himself. But, yes, he was the type to just think.
it's only real 'til it ends.
Wondering and wandering his was up the third floor, climbing up to the roof, he sat, looking over the snow-capped mountains. Clad in a black and white striped sweater, covered by a black faux fur jacket, faded black skinny jeans clinging to his narrow hips and his favorite pair of black high-top Converse hugging his feet, he crossed his arms over his thin legs pulled into his chest.
as the stars fall on our hands, call the wind the thief for stealing their prayers.
There was always that quite side of Evan, as for everyone else. Sometimes, when he didn't feel like being hyper-active like normal, he liked to have deep conversations about life, music, relationships - the whole shebang. Today's topic: Differences.
look at us shake the sky. pulling the whites from my eyes... and as the hands are spinning, they're waving you goodbye.
The question prominent in his mind is why there are differences in every person. Sure, that's the only way to tell people apart, but why must people criticize these differences? These individual characteristics? If there was an answer to this question, Evan would love to hear it. Maybe this scrap of information would give him more courage about being himself. His whole self.
test for more is what you're striving for.
He let out a defeated sigh, his breath showing in the frosty air. He looked around at the quiet grounds, taking in his surroundings. Looking beside him, he stops and stares at the empty space. Sometimes, he thought, wanting to be alone defeated the purpose when you really wanted to have company. But he wasn’t one to admit it.
can't wake the ones who live this life (not on our own) because people are the same.
Was it really worth it, he wondered silently. To fake yourself into the world just to belong? He laughed quietly. The answer, he presumed, was ‘no’.
(we are the same) only habits change.
Currently, there was nothing else on his mind. No more reason to think. He laid back on the rooftop, staring up at the cold atmosphere. He narrowed his eyes against the mid-day light, wrinkling his nose to keep it warm. He let out a short breath, an almost scoff. Maybe, he thought, he should wear warmer clothes when he went outside.

"...does he even like me?" "...ugh, I look like such a cow right now..." "...blah, blah, blah." "...and then i'll do my homework, and maybe text some people..."
A sigh escaped the full lips of Adalyn as she sat in the cafeteria, listening to her fellow students' thoughts. Most were about as interesting as watching paint dry. Some caught her attention, mainly the ones concerning her or her brother, but most were ignored.
Giving up on her less-than-fun-filled activity, she left the room, aimlessly walking through the halls of the cool castle. Already in her white faux fur jacket (she couldn't help it, while shopping with Evan. The white one was too cute. At least it didn't bother him.) and dark blue jeans, with a pair of boots to match, she was quite the comfortable one.
More thoughts drifted in and out of her head, and yet she continued to ignore them. The more she ignored, though, the more of a headache she obtained by the end of the day. It was the price to pay, but at least there were some nifty students that could just heal her pain away.
Her aimless wandering brought her to the rooftops, and a thought popped into her head that she recognized in a heart beat. Grinning, she poked her head out, spotting her brother, the light in her life. "Hey buddy!" she called out, hoping to get his attention so he could help her up.

The moment his eyes close due to the relaxed state of mind he has achieved, he hears a few footsteps and then a voice. Of course, it's not out of the ordinary he hears this voice. He sighs heavily, opening his eyes, quickly squinting against the suddenly bright sky, and sitting up.
He looks over to the side of the roof, where there's a way down. Or up, if you prefer. Evan quirks an eyebrow, crawling over to that side of the roof. He looks down, seeing his older sister looking up at him, a smile plastered on her face.
It's funny, really. Well, Evan thinks it's funny. He never knew that siblings were ever supposed to get along. Ever. But that wasn't the case with Adalyn. They were the bestest of friends, if you can believe it. In fact, Evan went with his sister to go get the coats that they're wearing. Nifty, huh?
He lies down on his stomach, looking down at her, head in his hands. He gives her a quick, aloof sort of wave before placing his head back in his hands. "Hello there, dear sister. How may I help you?" he inquires, smiling pleasantly.

Adalyn laughs when she sees her huge brother above her. In truth, he was actually quite slim, he just towered over her like it was nobodies business. Ha. At least she was smart. Although, he would make a great body guard someday...
Back to the present. Waving back at her brother of fifteen, she replies his quarry. "Well, dear brother, I was hoping you would do a girl a favor and help me up there. We can't all be giants like you."Giving him her most sincere puppy-eyes, she pouted up at her brother.
Ah, a girl has to work with what she's given, right? "Please?" she adds for good measure.

He stared down at his sister, tilting his head to the side, wrinkling his nose in thought. He seemed to toss the favor around in his head for a little while before he shrugged. “Just for that giant remark,” he said, rolling over onto his back so he was no longer gazing at Adalyn, but instead at the sky, “No.”
He laughed quietly, letting out a fake yawn. “I don’t think I’ll help you, actually. I think I might want to take a nap, instead.” Sighing, he turned back over onto his stomach, sending his sister a smile before sitting up properly and tossing his long legs over the side of the rooftop. "How exactly do you expect me to help you up here?" he asked, eyebrow quirked.

She glared at him when he told her know. "I can read your thoughts, asshole. Don't play that game with me." Huffing, she folded her arms over her chest, even when his head disappeared. Haha, at least he can't become invisible.
"Evan Daniel Warner! Help me up!" she cried, now just a tiny bit frustrated. She really wasn't mad, it was all for show. Thank goodness he did get her awesome ability to read minds. Then she'd be screwed.
She watches his head appear again, and then his legs. "Oh, well, I don't know. Jump down and let me get on your back? Lend a hand? Think, my darling brother, I wasn't the only one born with brains in the family." She offers him a sweet smile.

Evan let out a heavy puff of air, hopping down from the building's edge onto the balcony. He looked at his sister, placing his hands on his hips. "You know," he said, looking down at her, even though he was standing on even ground. "I could try and get you up there using my power," Evan said, wiggling his fingers in the air for emphasis, "But you're probably too damn heavy."
He gave her a wide, innocent grin before nudging her gently towards the wall. "Okay, you'll step on my hands and I'll boost you up. Sound good?" he said, folding his hands palm-side up over his knee, getting ready to boost her up onto the roof.

After a few moments, her brother appeared in front of her. Grinning, she wrapped her arms around him for a brief moment, before backing off. "I weigh very little, thank you very much. You're going to make me go on a diet now," she huffed. Like her brother, she was skinny, and her height showed that.
She laughed as he nudged her softly to the wall. "Sounds fantastic. Just don't drop me." Grinning, she placed a foot on his hand, jolting herself up onto the roof. "Success!" she cried, now looking down at her brother. "Join me?"

As his sister clung to him for a brief moment, Evan rolled his eyes, laughing a bit. When she finally situated herself on the roof, exclaiming her success, Evan couldn’t help but just stare at her, an eyebrow raised. He shook his head, pulling himself up onto the roof easily, sitting next to Adalyn. “I think,” he said, waving his hand in the air nonchalantly, “I’d really like to watch you try to get up here on your own.”
Tongue in cheek. A brother and sister thing.
“So what are you doing out here, anyways?” Evan asked, slightly confused. If he learned anything from living with her, Adalyn would have to be extremely bored or something close to it if she would go wandering off by herself. She’s too much of a social butterfly to be solo.

"I think," she replied, glaring at him. "I think that we will save that adventure for another day."Smiling, she rested back against the roof, closing her eyes, enjoying the small sunshine spitting threw the clouds.
Ada leaned her head in her brothers direction. "I got bored of the drabbles people were thinking about in the cafeteria. You know," she waved her hand. "The stupid things." Sighing she made herself more comfortable, but not soon after, one of her brothers thoughts brought her out.
"I can be by myself! What do you mean 'social butterfly? Just because my personality is bubbly?!" Softly, she hit the shoulder of Evan, giving him a look. "Geeze, Evan."

Evan let out a laugh. “Normally,” he said through his laughter, “People take ‘social butterfly’ as a compliment. And I’ve never seen someone get so defensive about it.” He nudged her softly in a playful manner. Brother and sister stuff. “Oh,” he said, wrinkling his nose against the cold, “By the way, stay out of my thoughts.”
He huffed in a faux angry manner. Sometimes, he’ll admit, it’s a good thing his sister can read his thoughts. But other times, it’s just plain weird, annoying or out of line. Of course, he knew, thinking those thoughts would earn him another hit on the shoulder. But he figured it was worth it.

"Yes well, I take offense to it," she responded, folding her arms over her chest. "Meanie," she added softly, still mock glaring at him. She smiled, however, when he nudged her. Just like the good 'ol days, before any of this power nonsense happened. "Ha! I try to stay out, dear, you just project them very loudly. It's not hard to miss," she added, wrinkling her nose as well.
She watch her brother, letting out a fake angry huff. It amazed her how much he had changed since becoming gifted, but her herself could be seen in the same manner. Ada wouldn't say it tore the family apart, but it left some huge gaps that still needed filling.
Ada ignored his thoughts, leaning over to rest her head against his shoulder. Older sister or not, she still loved the comfort of her brother. "Ev, are we ever going to be a happy family again?" she asked softly, surveying the grounds.

Evan stared in front of him, laughing at his sister's comments. After a moment of silence, she asked if they'd ever be happy again. She means, as a family. He shrugged in response. "What do you mean, exactly?" he ventured to ask.
Sure, he thought about everything that had happened. The fact that a partically broken family is in need of fixing. The fact that his gifts, and his sisters, made that family partically broken. But was there any way to fix these gaps created in their family? To make it so everyone was happy? He didn't bother voicing these thoughts, since, well, he figured Adalyn had heard them regardless.

Adalyn didn't answer immediately. Instead, she focused on the thoughts inside his head, which were much similar to hers. Their family wasn't perfect to begin with, but their parents had fought to give them the best life possible. To a certain extent, they had. Living in lavish homes, everything they could had ever wanted was theirs, and regardless, they were well taken care of. They had morals, even for rich kids. But, the abilities came, and with Adalyn, it had been bad enough, but the family faltered when Evan began showing his own signs of powers. She sighed, snuggling closer to her brother.
"Exactly," she finally replied, answering both his thoughts and his question. "What happens if we never get to see mom and dad and Emmett again? I mean, sure, we're a pretty shitty family right now, but we shouldn't let a few powers stand in the way of being happy. Am I right?" she asked, looking up towards her little brother.

Evan thought about the possibilities for a moment. Emmett, their older brother, wasn't lucky enough to be 'blessed', or so they say, with powers, like Adalyn and himself. And the thought of never seeing him again torn Evan's insides to pieces. His brother was his hero, as is his sister. But Emmett had a great impact when it came to his childhood and everything. A role model.
When Adalyn looked up at him almost expectantly, he didn't dare glance down. No, he couldn’t let his sister see that merely touching on this subject broke his normally happy heart. After a moment he decided he should answer her. He coughed, clearing his throat. “Uhm…,” he said, making sure his voice was stable enough to speak. “I don’t know,” he answered truthfully. “We should be able to be happy,” he said, still staring in front of him. “It’s not a matter of us being different that should make us all unhappy. So what if we’re shitty right now? We’ll probably always be that way. They’re our family. Minor differences shouldn’t be able to tear us apart.”
Evan huffed, trying to keep his composure. There was no way he was gonna let his sister know that this subject hurt him so much. Although, she’ll find out via thought if anything. It's times like these he really wish Adalyn couldn't read his mind. He felt it would be better if she didn't know how broken their family situation made him feel.
